VOLUNTEER FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: VOLUNTEERS

What are the dates of the 2017 session?

Camp Daybreak 2017 will be held from Sunday, August 6th until Sunday, August 13th, 2016. Volunteers arrive on the morning of the 6th and campers arrive on the 7th.

Is there an age requirement for volunteers and staff?

Yes. We ask that our volunteers and staff be a minimum of 15 years old to attend Camp Daybreak. Applicants who do not meet the age requirement but show a high level of experience, motivation and maturity may still apply.

How many volunteers can attend Camp Daybreak?

Camp Daybreak and its facilities are able to support 45 volunteers. These volunteers include 30 “Big Siblings” who are charged with supporting one of our 30 campers and 15 counselors who are available to support both our Big Siblings and campers. Counselors are typically returning staff who have at least 3 years of experience. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to secure one of those 45 volunteer positions we do have a waiting list.

I am a returning volunteer, am I required to fill out an application?

Yes, however, the application process for returning volunteers is much less rigorous. Your participation in the application process not only informs us of your interest but helps us to further consider the intent of the Camp Daybreak experience.

Please confirm your availability prior to submitting your application.

I need to document community service hours. What is the process for doing this?

Volunteers who also are meeting community service requirements may use Camp Daybreak to meet those requirements. At the completion of the camp session, if all aspects of the position have been met to satisfaction, volunteers will have earned 168 community service hours. Any documentation must be provided prior to the start of the camp session.

Are there paid positions available for staff?

Although a majority of the positions at camp daybreak are volunteer, there are 12 paid positions. These positions include:

Family A Consultant
Family B Consultant
Family C Consultant
Family D Consultant
Nature Director

How can I be put on the volunteer or camper waiting list?

Anyone who applies to be a camper or volunteer and is unable to secure a spot for our upcoming session is put on the waiting list. We access the waiting list in the event of a spot becoming available. If this were to occur, you would be contacted by the Camp Daybreak Director. In the past, spots have become available as late as mid-session.
